Our small, all-girls, nurturing environment provides the springboard to healing and wellness. A smaller program allows for more individualized treatment and a lot of one-on-one time for each student—an ideal situation for students who might also struggle with a learning disability or be emotionally delayed.  Because overall census is small and because therapist caseloads never exceed 5 girls, Moonridge staff have the time, training, and focus to hone in on the root cause of acting out behaviors rather than dealing with superficial symptoms.

Students are given a peer mentor and a staff mentor that help them to explore the “why” and “how come” of behaviors.  They are taught new skills to prepare them for the future.  A few of the skills sets taught at Moonridge include:

Expressing feelings before acting out

Social skills

Relationship skills

Communication about fears and hurt

Having healthy boundaries

Correctly reading social cues in social settings

Making good decisions “in the moment”

Learning how to get outside of “what I want to know”

Moonridge also believes in broad clinical training to help girls with special needs.  This training includes EMDR and DBT modalities.
