STUDENT LIFE
“Busy” and “structured” are
two words that seem to best describe life at Moonridge
Academy.
A typical weekday is as
follows: students arise early (6:15 AM), do chores, have a
morning devotional, and get ready for a day of school,
traditional and non-traditional therapy, recreation, and
introspection. School usually starts at 8:30 AM and goes
until 12:30 PM. Following lunch, students may do
individual
therapy, homework, equine therapy, recreational therapy,
or other activities interspersed with an afternoon group
therapy session. After dinner, students may do homework,
have specialized classes (e.g. Conversational Spanish,
Drama, etc.), or do level work. The evening provides time
to clean up, read, write in journals, and share with the
other students, prior to going to bed (9:45 PM).
Several times monthly, this
daily schedule is replaced with a half to full day
activity that might include an outdoor therapeutic trip to
one of the local national parks, canyoneering in local
canyons with guides, or other recreational but also highly
therapeutic, age-appropriate activities chosen for their
ability to reach girls and cause inner change. Students
often describe these excursions as their favorite
experiences at Moonridge Academy.
Even weekends are busy with
service projects, work with animals, special classes, and
a formal dinner. At higher levels, weekends might also
mean special trips into town to enjoy recreation and
cultural activities. |
